Taman Ayun: Pursuant to Papyrus Chronicle of the Mengwi (Lontar Babad Mengwi), the temple which is now referred by Taman Ayun Temple, that it had been newly sanctified in the year 1634 M and it is named with Taman Ahyun Temple.
This very pleasing temple was built by the King of Mengwi as his family temple.
It is a so-called “Pura Kawitan”, or family temple, a special temple, where the deified ancestors of the Raja Dynasty and important gods of other temples are honored.
The terraced courtyards of the temple are set in very well maintained grounds, surrounded by man-made waterways and entered over a bridge.
Pura Taman Ayun was enlarged in 1937, making some of its structures the most modern temple architecture in Bail.
